IDENTITY

Montalcino, green oasis of gentle slopes

and land of great wines

Montalcino, an ancient and fascinating Sienese village of Etruscan origin, is located on top of a hill about 600 meters above sea level among holm oak woods. Its verdant territory, bordered by Mount Amiata and the Orcia, Asso, and Ombrone valleys, is almost circular in shape so as to ideally identify four slopes, with different pedoclimatic characteristics (terrain, orientation, microclimate).

Vineyards occupy only a small part of the territory, particularly suited to the cultivation of Sangiovese, an ancient vine from which we produce the famous Brunello. Vineyards of our growers are located in all of the four quadrants which the territory of Montalcino is divided into, and this is a guarantee of excellent quality even in periods when the climatic conditions have not been favorable.

BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO D.O.C.G. RISERVA
“FRANCO AMBROSINO”

CANTINA DI MONTALCINO

HARVEST 2012: An unusual, atypical vintage with widespread rains in April and May, which saw a drop in production, but a significant increase in quality. Smaller quantities of grapes than in previous years which were delivered in small daily quantities have in fact allowed precise and targeted attention and even more dedicated oenological practices.
Excellent with highly structured and composite dishes such as red meats and game, possibly accompanied by mushrooms and truffles, but also with aged cheeses and to be tried at the end of the meal with dark chocolate.
Serving temperature: 18-20 ° C – use of the decanter is recommended
PERIODO DI VENDEMMIA: from September 5th to October 5th 2012.
AFFINAMENTO: For at least 36 months in 50 Hl Slavonian oak barrels. The wine rests in the bottle for at least 8 months.
VINIFICAZIONE: The grapes are harvested manually. The vinification is that of red wine with maceration of the skins for 30 days to increase the extraction of the color, with controlled temperatures up to 24 ° C, and frequent punching down without the use of pumps and motors to preserve the integrity of the skins.

Sangiovese 100% – 14% vol. – Drinkability: 20 years – Total acidity: 5,2 g/l – Residual sugars: <0,5 g/l
COLOR Garnet red with orange hues, it is clear and bright.
NOSE Balanced with hints of red fruit and canned fruit.
TASTE Silky and enveloping. Soft tannins expertly blend with the elegant texture, with balsamic notes on the finish.
Brunello di Montalcino DOCG Riserva is dedicated to Franco Ambrosino, historical director of the Cantina di Montalcino, who strongly encouraged the restructuring of the company with consequent focus on quality.
General Manager of Cantine Leonardo da Vinci from 1972 to 2012, the year of his death, he led the cooperative for 40 years. It was he who decided to acquire the Cantina di Montalcino in 1990, when the Ilcinese cooperative looked more like a warehouse than a cellar. He also had the idea of renovating the structure with a cutting-edge architectural project. But the most important decision concerns the passage from the production of bulk wine to the production of quality wines. With his management, in fact, the cooperative began to limit the yield of fruit per plant, followed step by step by the partners, improving the quality of the grapes and wine.

CELLAR

Unique reality,
symbol of architecture and design

Its profile reminds of Sienese hills

Cantina di Montalcino has been founded in 1970 and it is the only cooperative winery in the Brunello area. Today it counts 94 members, small farms that treat about 160 hectares of vineyards, on average less than 2 hectares each, located between 120 and 650 meters above sea level. They are small growers: they produce quality grapes for a total of about 76,000 bottles including Rosso di Montalcino DOC, Brunello di Montalcino DOCG and Brunello di Montalcino DOCG Riserva. They work with care and dedication, coordinated by our technicians.

Renovation work began in 2000 and the old structure, consisting of load-bearing concrete tanks, was demolished and completely rebuilt. The architectural design now reminds of Tuscan hills: it is a unique reality in the area. The winery has become part of the Toscana Wine Architecture circuit which brings together 14 “design” wineries of the region.
